Ethanol
Ethanol is a hydrocarbon with chemical formula CH3CH2OH. It is a highly flammable, colourless liquid with a wine-like odor.
India's biofuel program, among the world's largest, will see the country produce large quantities of ethanol to blend with petrol.
While it is conventionally made from fermenting sugars in sugarcane, corn or grains, Tirhuta will produce cellulosic ethanol, also called 2G ethanol, which converts cellulose from crop waste and energy crops into ethanol. This allows us to make ethanol substantially more environmentally friendly, and enrich India's farmers in the process.
Tirhuta is proud to be a part of India's energy story, and will begin production in end-2024.
